TOWED SLEDS

The efficiency of ATP’s operation partly lies in exceptional versatility. To be able to carry personnel at the same time as considerable load is a pre-requisite, especially when travelling long distances over snow and ice or when staying for long periods in the field. Loads should also not materially reduce daily range potential. Trailers are one way of extending load capability, however ATP’s sled options allow considerably greater load space with very low (or no) performance loss.

Sleds are towed using the same universal mounting as ATP’s trailers. Made from flexible ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMPWE), sometimes with galvanised steel strips on the underside to enhance tracking on ice, the sled material allows superior weight spread for a load, for example fuel bladders, as well as:

  • Extreme-cold tolerance: sled remains flexible and does not become brittle at very low temperatures.
  • High impact and abrasion resistance: Exceptional  durability withstands rough terrain, including sastrugi and bare ice, without significant damage – and with little or no environmental wear.
  • Low friction: A low friction coefficient minimises towing resistance, thus maintaining efficiency.
  • Flexibility: Sled flexes over uneven surfaces, reducing stress on both the sled and its load.
