ATP’s proprietary crevasse bars are another essential part of our “safety first” approach to equipping expeditions.
Even with the use of GPR, crevassed terrain is a threat to any mission.
In the unlikely event of a surface break through on a snow or ice bridge, our front-mounted crevasse bars offer an extra layer of protection to a moving platform. The bars have a simple function: to give each vehicle an extra 1.5 metre “reach” should the front of a vehicle break through the surface crust. The bar works by acting as a forward body extension, lodging on the far side of the ice fissure to prevent the front of the vehicle dropping into the gap and giving occupants ability to exit the unit. The bar is then also used to temporarily secure the front of the vehicle before straightforward recovery.
