ABOUT
The AT38 (38 inch tyres) is super-versatile for most coastal areas of, eg, Antarctica, especially for frequent use in remote areas which require excellent changing-surface capabilities. Tyre pressure can be rapidly adjusted to changing conditions from soft snow through rock to hard ice. Ice screws and studs give the vehicle superb traction on blue ice. Running the specially made tyres at ultra-low pressures smooths out jagged and uneven terrain to provide a comfortable ride and more efficient operation.
Three AT38s were used to drive to the Magnetic North Pole with the British TV show Top Gear in 2007, carrying the presenters, film crew and ATP support staff 1,400 kms over rough sea ice, boulder fields and many small islands.
Amongst other missions, the AT34 was also used locally in Iceland to support repairs of scientific equipment in the area of Eyjafjallajökull during the 2010 eruption which disputed air traffic in Europe.
